Self-Harm Alerting and Student Intervention - Go Guardian

This is Google system specific at this point.  Being a heavily Chromebook/Chromebox fleet of student devices, we bought in to Go Guardian for off-site filtering in the event we start sending devices home with students.  We were also able to leverage the student device monitoring within the classroom (similar to LanSchool on Windows or Mac devices) for teachers and their mobile labs. Originally the monitoring and alerting portion of Go Guardian left us with a lot of false positives of page content, but was not separating words on the page from content to comments.  About a year ago they re-worked a system called Smart Alerts.  Smart Alerts allowed us to set flags and alerts for each individual school, on both Explicit and Self-Harm related searches.  As a result of these alerts, we have seen interventions with students that have caught potential depression or psychological struggles.  Even a flag resulting from researching a topic for class allows contact to be made to confirm, and allows students to know that people are aware of what's going on within the network.  While a block serves it's purpose, these personal interactions of awareness have arguably an even greater impact. This product may not be the answer for all setups, but for those as heavily rolled into the Google structure as we have found ourselves, this product has exceeded what we could have hoped to get from it.
